Christopher Moore
Christopher Moore is a hilarious author who's written 10 books thus far. They're all great, but Fluke, Lamb, Coyote Blue and The Stupidest Angel are my favorites. Fluke follows the adventures of a marine biologist researching humpback whales and the meaning of their songs. He does find out, resulting in the discovery of an entire world of off-kilter humor and surrealism. So funny. Lamb is the one I really want to talk about. Lamb tells the story of Jesus from Biff's point of view. Biff is Jesus' buddy from childhood, from the days they used to play Egypt and the Israelites. Biff and Jesus climb mountains and fight demons and train with monks and create fake breasts and arms out of clay to pretend to be the goddess Kali. There are another hundered bajillion things they do, each is at least as funny as everything else. This book came out right after Fluke, the praise of which had lauded Christopher Moore as a comic genius. Boosted by Fluke, Lamb become Moore's most popular book and his real establishment as a comedic author. Coyote Blue is a tale of disillusionment, but in a good way. A man finds himself realizing that his business success is pretty ridiculous, and finds a way to appreciate life for what it is(amidst shamans and magic and Dobermans). Raziel stars in the Stupidest Angel, an angel sent from Heaven to grant a wish. He kind of does this wrong, and ends up creating a bunch of zombies which overrun Pine Cove. He is sorry, but he's kind of too dumb to fix everything so the local sheriff and a few others team up to fight off the zombies. All of his other books are funny, but the later the books were released the better written they are, generally. orChristopher Moore is a freakin' hilarious author, go read his books. |
